Making AgeTech Work: Why Innovation Needs Human Support

The Smarter Service has been part of some important conversations recently about the future of AgeTech and what it really takes to make it work in the real world.

Over the past few months, our CEO and co-founder, Terry Dry, joined leaders and innovators on stage at major industry gatherings, including the What’s Next Longevity Innovation Summit at the National Press Club in Washington, DC, and CES on the Verizon stage. Across very different audiences and settings, one theme kept coming up again and again.

There is no shortage of innovation in AgeTech.

The tools are getting smarter. Investment in the space continues to grow. New products and platforms promise to improve health, safety, connection, and independence for older adults. The potential is real and exciting.

But technology only creates impact when people actually know how to use it.

That’s where the conversation shifts from devices to outcomes. Tools alone do not drive better quality of life. Real results come from hands-on support, education, and human guidance. When older adults feel confident using technology, it becomes a tool for connection, independence, and safety. Without that support, even the best technology can quickly turn into frustration.

This is the perspective The Smarter Service brings to these conversations. Every day, our team works inside senior living communities and in the homes of older adults. We see firsthand what helps technology stick and what causes it to fall flat. The difference is almost always support. Patient, in-person guidance. Clear explanations. Someone who can sit side by side and make technology feel approachable.

We’re grateful to be invited into these rooms and onto these stages to share what we’re seeing on the ground. The future of AgeTech is bright, but it works best when innovation is paired with the support systems that help people actually use it.

Thank you to the organizers, partners, and peers helping move this conversation forward. We’re looking forward to continuing these discussions throughout the year.

You can find The Smarter Service on stage next at the AFUGN Longevity Innovation in Higher Education Summit at Mirabella at ASU, the Argentum Senior Living Executive Conference, LeadingAge BOLD, Medicarians, and more.

More conversations ahead. More progress to make.
