We’re excited to share that The Smarter Service has been named a finalist in two categories of the 2026 McKnight’s Excellence in Technology Awards: Quality and Resident Engagement & Recreation.
Our submission, “BHI Turns Fraud Prevention into High-Engagement Resident Programming,” recognizes our work with partner community BHI Senior Living / The Barrington of Carmel and global cybersecurity leader Trend Micro to help older adults better recognize, understand, and protect themselves from online scams and fraud. The initiative is part of our broader partnership with Trend Micro to bring cybersecurity education, protection, tools, and support to older adults.
As scams become increasingly sophisticated, fear of fraud can become its own barrier to technology. Our goal was to go beyond simply warning residents about the risks and give them practical knowledge, trusted tools, and ongoing support to navigate the digital world with greater confidence.
Together, we created an approachable, hands-on program combining fraud and scam education, cybersecurity resources from Trend Micro, and ongoing support from The Smarter Service Tech Concierges.
And residents responded. Participation was 90% higher than typical community educational programming, with strong repeat attendance and overwhelmingly positive feedback.
We’re proud to see this work recognized by McKnight’s alongside so many organizations advancing technology and innovation across senior living, and grateful to BHI Senior Living and Trend Micro for their partnership.
The Gold, Silver and Bronze winners will be announced September 16, 2026, during the virtual McKnight’s Technology Awards + Summit.
